Cavern Originals – Monthly Grassroots Music
The Cavern Club’s monthly showcase of the UK’s best emerging talent returns this December with another unmissable lineup of raw, rising acts ready to make their mark on the legendary Liverpool stage.
Featuring: Joey & the Hot Tub Boys, Velvet Tuxedo and The Munyks
Joey & the Hot Tub Boys tell stories of being different through music. Frontman Joey sings of joyous nights and fearful days, social anxiety pitted against queer euphoria, and with his band by his side, these lyrics are paired with upbeat, energetic, Elton John-esque piano, dazzling guitar solos from Eddie, head-bobbing bass from Alex and pounding drums from Toby. Everyone’s welcome in their strange little world, so why not stay a while? 😉
The Velvet Tuxedo are a Hull-based four-piece channelling the raw electricity of 60s freakbeat, garage rock, psychedelic R&B and proto-punk into a sharp, modern live assault. Drawing from the power of The Who, the savage edge of MC5 and the kaleidoscopic energy of British freakbeat, the band fuse vintage influence with a restless, contemporary intensity — not revivalism, it is free from pastiche… it is reinvention
The Velvet Tuxedo are not interested in nostalgia for its own sake. They are taking the spirit of a golden underground era — the danger, style and sonic experimentation of mid-60s Britain — and dragging it headfirst into the present day.
The Who?? THE MUNYKS!!
Emerging from the post-industrial haze of a German urban sprawl, The Munyks are a snarling reminder that the raw nerve of ‘66/67 never dulled. Far fromthe emptygestures of“hi”s and “bye”s echoing through their antiseptic hometown, The Munyks break free from the monotony of the mainstream – tearing the wild, untamed sound of British and American garage psychedelic beat straight from the grave! Sonically, they draw their inspiration from legends like The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Music Machine, The Sonics, or The Doors. A biting fuzz guitar, gritty Vox-amp filth, hypnotic drums, tightly compressed British-style Star Bass, and an Italian Farfisa organ swirling like Syd and Sky on speed — and not least: a distinctive lead voice that’s more incantation than song!
Dreams and nightmares, love, hope, rebellion, and the longing for another world shape their lyrics, expressed in a mixture of symbolist – surrealist poetry and raw , existentialist street poetry. Leave the everyday behind and dive into the alternative, eccentric realm of The Munyks — a pure Rock’n’Roll Circus
