The Cavern Club Partners with National Museums Liverpool for ‘Summer of Sound’
Liverpool’s world-famous Cavern Club is proud to announce its collaboration with National Museums Liverpool for Summer of Sound at the Museum of Liverpool — a vibrant, six-week celebration of the city’s unparalleled musical heritage.
Running from 25 July to 29 August 2026, the series brings together legendary names, emerging talent, and international artists, all carefully curated by The Cavern Club to reflect the depth and diversity of Liverpool’s music scene — past, present and future.
This landmark partnership arrives at a significant moment in the Cavern’s story, as the iconic venue looks ahead to a major milestone: its 70th anniversary on 16 January 2027. A full programme of celebrations is currently in development, with further announcements to follow, and Summer of Sound offers an exciting first glimpse of what’s to come.
A City’s Soundtrack — Curated by The Cavern
From the skiffle roots that shaped modern music to today’s cutting-edge acts, Summer of Sound showcases the very spirit that has defined Liverpool across generations.
Opening the series on 25 July, The Quarrymen — whose legacy is entwined with the earliest days of The Beatles — will bring audiences back to where it all began, sharing songs and stories from 1950s Liverpool.
Other highlights include:
- STONE (1 August) — representing the next wave of Liverpool music, selected in partnership with BBC Introducing’s Dave Monks
- ‘This is Merseybeat’ (8 August) — a celebration of the sound that changed global pop culture
- Ian Prowse’s The Monday Club (22 August) — a special live edition of the Cavern’s beloved grassroots songwriter night
- International Beatleweek Showcase (29 August) — bringing artists from across the globe to celebrate Liverpool’s most enduring musical legacy
The series culminates with a very special headline performance from Michael Head & The Red Elastic Band on Saturday 15 August, offering an intimate opportunity to experience one of Liverpool’s most revered songwriters in a unique waterfront setting.
The Cavern’s Voice — Past, Present and Future
Jon Keat, Director of Operations and Music at The Cavern Club, said:
“We are delighted to be collaborating with Museum of Liverpool on this fantastic series of shows. As we approach our 70th anniversary in January, this feels like a perfect moment — not to look back quietly, but to celebrate loudly everything that Liverpool music represents.
The Cavern has never stood still. From our earliest jazz and skiffle roots, through Merseybeat, blues and beyond, to the new artists we champion every day, we’ve always been about live music in the moment. Summer of Sound captures that spirit perfectly — and it’s just the beginning.
We’ve got some very exciting plans for 2027, and this partnership with National Museums Liverpool is a brilliant taster of what’s to come.”
Looking Ahead to 70 Years of The Cavern Club
Since opening in 1957, The Cavern Club has stood at the heart of British music history — the stage where The Beatles played 292 times and where countless artists have followed. Today, across the Cavern Club, Cavern Live Lounge and Cavern Pub, live music continues daily, keeping the spirit of Liverpool alive for audiences from around the world.
As the Cavern prepares to mark 70 years in January 2027, the venue is set to celebrate its legacy not as a museum, but as a living, breathing home of music — one that continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.
More details on the Cavern’s 70th anniversary programme will be announced soon.
Summer of Sound takes place at the Museum of Liverpool from 25 July to 29 August 2026.
