Young Irish Beatles Superfan Riordan Hopwood to Make Cavern Club Debut
Today, Thursday 3 July, rising Irish musician Riordan Hopwood will achieve one of his lifelong ambitions when he takes to the stage of Liverpool’s world-famous Cavern Club.
The talented 12-year-old singer and guitarist has built a growing following through his performances on Dublin’s iconic Grafton Street, where his impressive musicianship and love of classic music have captivated audiences. A passionate Beatles fan, Riordan has gained attention online and across Irish media for his performances of songs by the Fab Four, amassing thousands of views through his street performances and social media channels.
Riordan’s invitation to perform at the Cavern came in truly memorable fashion. During an interview on BBC Radio Merseyside’s Saturday Breakfast Show, where he was discussing his love of The Beatles and his dream of one day playing the famous Mathew Street venue, Cavern Director Jon Keats was secretly listening in. To Riordan’s surprise, Keats joined the programme live and personally invited him to perform at the Cavern Club. Riordan immediately accepted, describing the opportunity as a “dream come true”.
For a young musician whose musical heroes are John, Paul, George and Ringo, the chance to perform in the venue synonymous with the launch of The Beatles’ remarkable career is particularly special. The Cavern Club famously hosted 292 performances by The Beatles during their formative years and remains one of the most celebrated live music venues in the world.
Riordan’s set will feature a selection of Beatles classics, showcasing both his musical talent and his deep appreciation of the band’s catalogue, from their early rock and roll influences through to their later groundbreaking recordings.
Commenting on Riordan’s forthcoming appearance, Cavern Director Jon Keats said:
“Riordan is a shining example of the enduring and global impact of The Beatles and their music. Despite being just 12 years old, he has developed a remarkable talent and an obvious passion for the songs that continue to inspire generation after generation.
We are delighted to welcome him to a stage that has hosted so many great artists over the last (almost) seven decades. As the Cavern prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary on 16 January 2027, it is a reminder that our story is not only about preserving musical history, but also about inspiring its future.
Young artists like Riordan represent the next generation of musicians who are discovering The Beatles and keeping their legacy alive. It is a pleasure to play a part in helping make one of his dreams come true.”
From the streets of Dublin to the stage where The Beatles helped shape music history, Riordan’s Cavern Club debut is sure to be a memorable moment for the young performer and Beatles fan alike.
