The Beatles Story curates new Black History Month display

Black History Month is celebrated every October in the UK and is a time of celebration and recognition of Black people, their stories, their achievements, and their contributions to culture.

This Black History Month and beyond, The Beatles Story is shining a spotlight on some of the incredible Black artists who have performed at Liverpool’s world-famous Cavern Club, which was established as a jazz club in 1957.

Artists like Stevie Wonder, Little Eva, The Chants and Chuck Berry have brought their unique sound to the famous Cavern stage. Black voices from Merseyside to Michigan; North Carolina to South Jamaica and beyond have delighted audiences in the cavernous club beneath Mathew Street.

The video and the exhibit at The Beatles Story have been curated with the kind support of Dave Jones, Director and owner of The Cavern Club.

The Beatles Story is also proud to announce their collaboration with Google Arts and Culture’s ‘Black Union’ project, which aims to spotlight Black artists and culture. The attraction worked alongside three writers – Les Spaine, Yaw Owusu, and Iona Fazer – to chronicle the overlapping stories of The Beatles and Black music. Delve into the online exhibits here.

Head to The Beatles Story’s Discovery Zone this half term to get involved in Black History Month workshops. Learn about different Black artists who inspired The Beatles and who played in The Cavern Club. There will be a range of activities in the Discovery Zone to get involved with throughout the week!
Workshops will be held in the Discovery Zone at The Beatles Story, on the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool between 11 am and 3 pm. All materials will be provided. Tickets are not required.
